The Farragut Parks & Recreation Department is working hard to provide safe classes for the community. Here are upcoming offerings:
Mondays from 5-5:30 p.m. in the community center. Cost: free. Registration deadline: 5 p.m. on the Friday before the session. Instructor: Jenny Trussell, registered Children’s Yoga Teacher. Get the entire crew moving with a delightful family yoga class! This class will introduce basic yoga poses, breathwork and stretches, along with stress-reduction techniques. Adults and older children will enjoy the gentle fitness routine, while younger children often watch and/or mimic the moves, learning through play and imagery. Bring a mat for each participant, a willingness to move, and a big smile! Register all participants of this class individually.
Total Fitness Classes
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the community center. Cost: $4 per session. Pre-registration required: spaces are limited. Join Rachel Piotrowski, certified group exercise instructor and personal trainer, for a total body fitness class! A variety of body weight and hand weight exercises will be utilized to build upper and lower body strength, improve balance and strengthen the core. Low impact aerobic conditioning and stretching are also incorporated. Please bring hand weights or other weighted objects for your workout. If you do not have any, just bring yourself! Don't forget water and a mat.
Arts and Crafts for Littles
Wednesdays from 11-11:45 a.m. in the community center large classroom. Cost: $7 per child/guardian pair. Instructor: Natalie Gwin and son Wilder. Join us every week for a fun arts and crafts class for littles! Geared for children age 3-5, each class will feature a different spring-themed craft with a focus on numbers, letters, shapes and colors. Fun for kids and adults!
Stop the Bleed Training and Certification
Thursday, April 22, 2-3:30 p.m. in the community center large classroom. Cost: free. Registration deadline: Wednesday, April 21. Instructor: Debi Tuggle and staff from UT Medical Center.
TWRA Boating Safety Education
Saturdays, April 24 and May 22, from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Assembly Hall. Pre-registration required at tn.gov/twra. Each session limited to 24 people. Due to social distancing, no walk-ins: pre-registration required. Any Tennessee resident born after Jan. 1, 1989, must show the TWRA-issued wallet Boating Safety Education Certificate as proof of successful completion of the TWRA Boating Safety exam. No other certificate will be accepted as meeting the requirements of the law. Please bring Type 600 boating safety exam permit, a writing utensil and something to write on to class. The permit is available from any business (license agent) that sells hunting and fishing licenses (Walmart, sporting goods stores, bait stores, marinas, etc.). Making Medicare Easier
Monday, May 10, from 6-7 p.m. in the community center Assembly Hall. Registration deadline: Friday, May 7. Cost: free. Instructor: Bruce Landis of Providence Advisors Group. Learn about enrollment periods, overview of parts A, B, C and D and supplements.
Essential Oils: Balancing Difficulties and Emotions
Tuesday, May 11, 6-7:30 p.m. in the community center large classroom. Cost: free. Instructor: Kristi Hulsey of Tennessee Thyme. Having a rough day? A hard season? A difficult year? You’re not alone. Come learn new and natural ways to help with difficulties and emotions when you need a boost.
Make & Take: Wall Hanging Basket
Tuesday, May 18, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. in the community center large classroom. Registration deadline: Friday, May 14. Cost: $50. Instructor: Sheri Burns of the Appalachian Arts & Crafts Center and Pellissippi State Community College. This class features a wall hanging basket with a row of hooks on the bottom to hang keys or other objects with multiple embellishment and color options. This class is appropriate for all skill levels. All tools and supplies provided by the instructor.
Six-week session: Tuesdays, May 18 through June 22, from 6-7 p.m. in the community center. Registration deadline: Friday, May 14. Cost: $60. Join 200-hour registered yoga teacher Simon Bradbury for Pilates/Yoga Fusion! This class combines yoga poses with Pilates mat exercises that build core strength, enhance flexibility and balance in a low-impact approach to mind-body fitness. You will finish class feeling relaxed, refreshed and energized. Please bring your own mat and water.
Making Social Security Easier
Monday, May 24, from 6-7 p.m. in the community center Assembly Hall. Registration deadline: Friday, May 21. Cost: free. Instructor: Garrett Crawford of Providence Advisors Group. Confused about your Social Security filing options? Attend this class and learn how spousal benefits work, how Social Security is taxed and the implications of working while receiving Social Security.
