Newcomers

Town Seal

Dear Farragut Newcomers,

Whether you are a newcomer or a returning former resident, welcome to Farragut! We are glad you are here, and we want to help make your transition to being a Farragut citizen as easy as possible. On this website, you can find valuable information about service providers within the Town as well as information about Farragut's government, subdivisions, parks, greenways, community services and general facts. Also on this website is a copy of our latest annual report - hard copies are available at the Town Hall. Please let us know if you need any help in settling into life in Farragut.

You will find that we have outstanding parks with wonderful amenities that we continue to expand each year. A great number of our citizens enjoy the network of greenways and walking trails that we have developed within the Town. Expansion of this network of trails is an ongoing process, and, at some point in the future, you will be able to walk from anywhere in the Town to any other location both in the Town and many areas of Knox County.

We have a number of historic features within the Town ranging from 200-year-old buildings to areas on which Civil War battles took place. Retail and dining establishments are abundant and growing. We hope you will take time to look into our history and take advantage of the shopping and dining opportunities within the Town.

In the 30 years of the Town's existence, we have strived to maintain standards of development that would set Farragut apart from many other suburban towns and cities, and I believe you will conclude that we have done a good job. Our challenge will always be to use innovative ways that continue to set ourselves apart. You can help. We have 16 volunteer committees (standing and short term) with interests ranging from beautification to economic development, all involving citizen volunteers giving of their time to make our community a better place. The Town also boosts a volunteer corp of over 100 members that lend their time and talents to the Farragut Folklife Museum and Gift Shop and special events. Your participation is solicited, and we welcome you to become a volunteer and serve your Town.

If you have school-age children, then you might have chosen Farragut because of the schools that serve the Town. These schools are operated by Knox County, not the Town of Farragut, but we have a stake in them and believe they are among the best public schools in Tennessee. We are active in helping them to maintain excellence. We have one committee dedicated to making sure that we, the Town's citizens, help enrich the education experience for our citizens as well as for all of Knox County.

And, finally, this note:  if you are coming to Farragut in 2010, you've picked a good time. It is the 30th anniversary of the Town's founding, and we are planning a year-long celebration with events and opportunities in every month. So, have fun, and again, welcome to Farragut! We're glad you're here.

Sincerely,

Ralph McGill
Mayor
