Record Number of Building Permits Issued in Farragut in 2016

FARRAGUT, TN – The Town of Farragut issued 1,049 building permits in 2016, the highest number since it was founded. The Town issued 810 building permits in 2015, and 764 in 2014.

Permits are issued for commercial and residential construction as well as remodel, gas/mechanical/plumbing, swimming pool and deck projects. The 2016 projects have an estimated construction value of $69,811,470.

A total of 2,566 inspections were performed last year, a number that’s up from 2,156 in 2105 and 1,963 in 2014.

The majority of recent construction in Farragut is residential, says Community Development Director Mark Shipley. He thinks low interest rates, economic optimism and rising demand for homes have played a role in the increase, and expects the trend to continue in 2017.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, single-family home starts in 2016 reflect an increase of 9.3 percent over 2015’s total.
