Commercial Developments & Subdivision Plats

Site plans and subdivision plats are reviewed to ensure they are in compliance with the Town's engineering regulations. Additionally, the Engineering Department staff provide inspections of the construction of public infrastructure, such as subdivision streets and drainage systems.

Drainage Improvements

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen have adopted a drainage improvement policy which outlines the responsibilities for surface drainage on public and private property.

Park / Greenway Construction Projects

In cooperation with the Parks and Leisure Services Department, the Engineering Department performs oversight of park and greenway improvements.

Pavement Management

The Engineering Department staff oversees the resurfacing of streets within the Town, including the recommendation of streets to be resurfaced (based upon annual inspections, and with assistance of our in-house database of street and road conditions) as well as the administration of the resurfacing contract and inspection of the work by contractors. A resurfacing schedule is approved annually by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen and implemented in the pavement construction season each year.

Road Construction Projects

Engineering Department staff works closely with consultants and contractors in the design and construction of roads, including right-of-way acquisition and utility coordination. Through the Technical Committee of the Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organization, the Town has received extensive federal funding for our major roadway projects, as well as many of our sidewalk and greenway projects. Copies of the Town's Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for the next 5 years are available upon request. Contact the Town Hall for more information.

Stormwater Matters Water Quality Program / NPDES

As a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II community, the Town is dedicated to improving water quality in our creeks through in-house and community education programs, construction oversight, and a variety of activities designed to involve both adult and student participation. The Town's Engineering Department staff oversees the stormwater program and provide support to the Stormwater Advisory Committee. Visit our Stormwater Matters page for more information.

Traffic Calming Program

Engineering Department staff make recommendations to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen regarding traffic calming and speeding related citizen requests within Farragut subdivisions upon a request.

Review the Traffic Calming Policy or contact the Town Hall for additional information.

Obtain a Traffic Calming Application for (HOA's) for a homeowner's association represented subdivision or a Traffic Calming Application for NON (HOA) subdivisions not represented by a homeowner's association to make a request, or contact the Town Hall.

All control devices are implemented per the Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
