Winter 2018

All fall classes, workshops and events will be held at Farragut Town Hall, 11408 Municipal Center Drive. Register at townoffarragut.org/register, in person at Town Hall or by phone (218-3375). Payment is due at the time of registration. All credit card payments will incur a transaction fee. Cash and check payments are also accepted when registering in person. No refunds are given. The Town of Farragut is not responsible for costs associated with the purchase of supplies when a class is canceled.

Intro to Facebook for Seniors (two options)

Option 1: Tuesday, Jan. 9, 10 AM – 12 PM. Registration and payment deadline: Monday, Jan. 8.

Option 2: Thursday, March 8, 10 AM – 12 PM, Registration and payment deadline: Wednesday, March 7.

Cost: $30. Must be 55 or older to attend and bring your own device to access Facebook to the class. Classes are limited to five participants so register early!

Lunch & Learn: Where Shall We Land? Exploring Living Options

Monday, Jan. 22, 12:30 PM. Cost: Free. Registration deadline: Friday, Jan. 19. Instructor: Melanie Cahill with Choices in Senior Care. According to an AARP Survey, 75 percent of seniors wish to stay in their home. Is this always the best option? What changes should be made to make it a good option? The questions will be discussed with others. A light lunch will be provided for all of those who preregister.

Apple - iPad/iPhone Basics for Seniors

Android - Samsung Galaxy Phone/Tablet Basics for Seniors

Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 24 & 25, 12:30 – 2:30 PM. Registration and payment deadline: Tuesday, Jan. 23. Cost: $45. Must be 55 or older to attend and must bring your own Samsung device to the class. Classes are limited to five participants so register early!

Getting the Most Out of Your Smartphone/Tablet Camera for Seniors (two options)

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

Fridays, Feb. 2 – April 13, 9 AM – 3 PM in the Farragut Town Hall Board Room. No appointment necessary – assistance is free. Volunteers will complete and e-file IRS tax returns for lower income and senior taxpayers. Taxpayers should bring wage and earnings statements (Form W-2 from employers and form 1099-MISC from clients); interest, dividend, capital gains, pension, IRA and social security statements; list of items that might be considered for itemized deductions; support for other income and credits; and a copy of last year’s tax return. Please bring social security cards for all persons listed on the return. Sponsored by the Town of Farragut and the Internal Revenue Service. Please note: In addition to the Farragut site, VITA will also be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 1 – April 12 from 5 – 8 PM at Westside Unitarian Universalist Church, 616 Fretz Road. Magnificent Tennesseans – 200 Years of Stories and Songs

Monday, March 5, 7 PM. Cost: Free. Registration is appreciated but not required.

Frank Galbraith, retired Farragut Middle School history teacher, shares stories about the Alamo, Sergeant York, Thunder Road, Davy Crockett, Dolly Parton, Pat Summit and more! Events are accompanied by historically correct music.
