Normal Aging vs. Dementia and Tips for Healthy Aging
Monday, Jan. 9, 1:00 PM. Cost: Free. Registration deadline: Friday, Jan. 6. Instructor: Elaine Wilson with Choices in Senior Care. This presentation discusses differences between normal memory changes and those that occur in dementia. The program will outline risk factors and the importance of early diagnosis.

iPad/iPhone Basics for Seniors
Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 17 & 18, 10 AM – 12 PM. Registration and payment deadline: Monday, Jan. 16. Cost: $45. Must be 55 or older to attend and bring your iPad or iPhone to the class. Classes are limited to five participants so register early!

Samsung Galaxy Phone/Tablet Basics for Seniors
Option 1: Tuesday & Wednesday, Jan. 17 & 18, 12:30 – 2:30 PM. Registration and payment deadline: Monday, Jan. 16.
Cost: $45. Must be 55 or older to attend and must bring your own Samsung device to the class. Classes are limited to five participants so register early!

Facebook 101 for Seniors

Wednesday, March 1, 10 AM – 12 PM. Registration and payment deadline: Tuesday, Feb. 28.
Cost: $30. Must be 55 or older to attend and bring your own device to access Facebook to the class. Classes are limited to five participants so register early!

AARP Smart Driving Program
Friday, March 10 in the Farragut Town Hall Board Room, 8:30 AM – 5 PM. Cost: $15 for AARP members; $20 for non-AARP members. Bring cash or check to the class. Registration deadline: Monday, March 6. Participants must bring their AARP membership card or their membership number to the class to receive the $5 discount. Membership numbers can be obtained by calling 1-888-687-2277. Anyone can attend. Participants must be 55 years of age or older and complete 8 hours of class time to be eligible for a discount (up to 10%) on their auto insurance. The program, which is taught by trained AARP volunteers, is designed to cover such topics as age-related physical changes and declining perceptual skills and to serve as a refresher course for the rules of the road, local driving problems and license renewal requirements.

Detox Clutter to De-Stress
Tuesday, March 14, 6 PM. Registration deadline: Monday, March 13. Cost: Free. Instructor: Cilla Ross from Finishing Touches. Our modern lives can be so busy and hectic sometimes that the lack of “breathing room” increases our stress which negatively impacts our health. During the class, learn ways that you can detox your lives and homes of the chronic stressors that can raise your blood pressure, blood sugar and wreck your health. Restoring boundaries and balance during our day enables us to breathe again! These tips will help you unclutter your life and bring in a much-needed breath of fresh air. Refreshments will be provided.

Getting the Most Out of Your Smartphone/Tablet Camera for Seniors

Wednesday, March 22, 12:30 – 2:30 PM. Registration and payment deadline: Tuesday, March 21. Cost: $30. Must be 55 or older to attend and must bring your own Samsung device to the class. Classes are limited to five participants so register early!

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
Fridays, Feb. 3 – April 14, 9 AM – 3 PM in the Farragut Town Hall Board Room. No appointment necessary – assistance is free. Volunteers will complete and e-file IRS tax returns for lower income and senior taxpayers. Taxpayers should bring wage and earnings statements (Form W-2 from employers and form 1099-MISC from clients); interest, dividend, capital gains, pension, IRA and social security statements; list of items that might be considered for itemized deductions; support for other income and credits; and a copy of last year’s tax return. Please bring social security cards for all persons listed on the return. Sponsored by the Town of Farragut and the Internal Revenue Service. Please note: In addition to the Farragut site, VITA will also be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 2 – April 13 from 5 – 8 PM at Westside Unitarian Universalist Church (616 Fretz Road). New this year, you may call 748-0151 to get an appointment to get your return done on Saturdays, downtown at the Love Kitchen.
