Fall 2017

All fall classes, workshops and events will be held at Farragut Town Hall, 11408 Municipal Center Drive. Register at townoffarragut.org/register, in person at Town Hall or by phone (218-3375). Payment is due at the time of registration. All credit card payments will incur a transaction fee. Cash and check payments are also accepted when registering in person. No refunds are given. The Town of Farragut is not responsible for costs associated with the purchase of supplies when a class is canceled.

General Education

Fire Extinguisher Demonstrations

  • Thursday, Oct. 5, 10:30 – 11:30 AM and 2 – 3 PM
  • Cost: Free – no registration required.

In conjunction with the Knox County Fire Prevention Bureau, the Town of Farragut Fire Prevention Office will offer two fire extinguisher demonstrations that are open to the public. Businesses and residents are encouraged to attend. The demonstrations will feature the Fire Bureau’s fire extinguisher simulator. Participants can attend at any time during the one-hour sessions.

Dementia vs. Normal Aging Lunch & Learn

Melanie Cahill with Choices in Senior Care discusses normal changes that occur with aging vs. the changes associated with dementia. Tips for successful aging will also be given. A light lunch will be provided.

The Good, the Not So Bad, & the Ugly in Estate Planning and Probate

  • Monday, Oct. 16, 6 – 8 PM
  • Cost: Free

Instructors: Keith Alley, Victoria Tillman and Patrick McKenrick. This program will discuss the mechanics of modern estate planning, advantages and disadvantages of Trusts and how probate really works.

Jennifer Aramburo, Walgreens Pharmacy Manager, will cover basic diabetes education and include a free diabetes risk assessment. A light lunch will be provided.

AARP Smart Driving Program

  • Friday, Dec. 8, 8:30 AM – 5 PM
  • Cost: $15 for AARP members; $20 for non-AARP members. Bring a check to the class.
  • Registration deadline: Monday, Dec. 4.

Participants must bring their AARP membership card or membership number to the class to receive the $5 discount. Membership numbers can be obtained by calling 1-888-687-2277. Participants must be 55 years of age or older and complete eight hours of class time to be eligible for a discount (up to 10%) on their auto insurance. The program covers such topics as age-related physical changes and declining perceptual skills, and serves as a refresher course for the rules of the road.

Medicare Part D - Lunch & Learn

Jennifer Aramburo, Walgreens Pharmacy Manager, covers how Medicare Part D works, what is covered, how to enroll and other important information. A light lunch will be provided.

Participants must be 55 or older and bring their own devices to class. Classes are limited to five participants, so register early!
